Ground broken on Vordingborg’s new city hall

Construction on Vordingborg's coming, PLH-designed city hall is now under way. By summer 2023, employees and citizens will be able to start using the site as the municipality's new meeting point.

On Wednesday, Vordingborg's mayor Mikael Smed – with the help of an excavator – cut the first sod for the municipality's new city hall. Dubbed Borgernes Hus (“Citizens’ House”), this four-story building in the middle of the town has been designed by PLH Arkitekter to meet the municipality's wishes for sustainability, flexible workspaces and new facilities for citizens and local organizations.

“It’s really uplifting to see how the ideas from the excellent collaboration with Vordingborg Municipality and our other partners are now being realized. The new city hall will be a unifying and multifunctional building that benefits both employees and citizens. For example, with the assembly hall we’ve created a space that can also be used for cultural activities, thereby inviting Vordingborg’s citizens and community groups inside,” says Søren Mølbak, CEO and partner at PLH Arkitekter.

When completed, the city hall will be the main workplace for 220 employees. Furthermore, it will be joined to the existing Job Center and Citizen Service Center, ensuring that all functions are integrated in a single building, which will help strengthen the town center.

"We’ve spent many years getting to this point. But now we’re up and running, and I very much look forward to our employees, citizens and associations being able to start using the building next summer,” says Vordingborg Mayor Mikael Smed.

Throughout the design phase, PLH Arkitekter has focused on creating a building characterized by sustainable solutions and low energy consumption so as to support Vordingborg Municipality's Vision 2030 of becoming a climate-friendly municipality.

PLH Arkitekter is one of the country's most experienced and sought after studios when it comes to designing town halls that bring together and provide added value for municipal employees as well as citizens.

Accordingly, PLH has designed Herlev Municipality's upcoming City Hall Hjortespring, which is expected to be completed in 2023. Høje Taastrup's new city hall, which is scheduled to open this year, is designed by PLH Arkitekter as well.
