From factory to lighthouse for a new district
Magasin7
Together with bsv arkitekter & ingenjörer ab (XPartners), we reimagined a former eternit pipe factory as a public activity square – framed by new workplaces and open to the city. Instead of demolishing the existing structure, we strip it back to its structural core and transform it into an open, shared space – a new urban heart for the district. At the center, the former factory becomes an ‘inverted building’ – where what was once inside is now outside. A flexible activity square for everyday life and events, surrounded by offices, cafés, and public functions. Rising above it all, the site’s accumulator tank is transformed into a lighthouse for Varberg with a public viewpoint of the city.
