A school rooted in community
Helsingør City School
As part of the competition for “Project School in the Town Center,” we proposed a new, vibrant school that rethinks both structure and content – all rooted in the existing buildings and the community around them. The proposal brings together two urban schools, a music school, youth club, multi-purpose hall, and after-school care into a single open learning environment. With simple architectural and landscape interventions, outdoor areas and edge zones are revitalized, creating new connections between the school and the city. Each department has its own identity, where outdoor and indoor life are closely integrated. An outdoor staircase element and a new public square serve as a gathering point for students and local residents.
