The vision for the masterplan of Waves Shopping Centre was to re-brand the former Hundige Shopping Centre and improve its image and drawing power through a visible enhancement in its design features and logistics. The project seeks to bring a unifying element to the town, where the new centre’s distinctive form and layout work in concert with the proportions, materials and traffic flow of its surroundings, and open the possibility for new urban spaces and recreational activities.

The design scheme represents a doubling of existing retail space and calls for an additional 28,400 m2 in a new 2-story building. The new building adjoins the existing centre and introduces activities such as cafés, restaurants, fitness centre and high-end branded fashion boutiques. The masterplan also includes a new 30,000 m2 parking garage.

The masterplan takes a holistic approach that addresses logistic and functional needs, with the integration of a new 30,000 m2 parking garage and service dock. The scope of work for this commission includes demolition, building renovation and expansion, new construction, as well as requisite reconfiguration of access roads and pathways.
