Making the most of its central location in Vilnius’ financial district, PLH Arkitekter’s design for The Ridge offers a unique, but at the same time harmonious, urban architectural expression that compliments the neighboring towers with a timeless look for a high quality mixed used building.
The architectural concept breaks the big high-rise into smaller, more human-scale volumes with plateaus functioning as verdant terraces that add green space even on the upper levels. While visually slimming down the building volume, the platforms grant tenants, residents and visitors views of the most iconic parts of Vilnius: Gediminas Castle, the old town and The Neris River.
To avoid the traditional “glassy” expression, while providing open views and natural light, the design contains a regular facade grid with slender elements made from light colored ceramic tiles with 3D effect as well as energy glass, featuring a series of solar shading slats in the workplace areas to provide copious amounts of natural light. The color palette is based on natural, neutral colors, matching both the contemporary office and the modern housing environment. The materiality of the facade and details inside the building are a reference to the ceramic brick masonry that the area is famous for.
