The Australian Embassy in Denmark

PLH has undertaken the interior design of a newly renovated villa north of Copenhagen made for the Australian Ambassador to Denmark, Norway and Iceland. The renovation of this period home has resulted in modern, spacious, clean-lined rooms with excellent natural light. The residence consists three main zones – the representation areas, the guest floor and the ambassador’s retreat.

The main idea behind the design is to represent Australia’s vibrant, multi-dimensional culture in a Copenhagen context – cool, sophisticated and restrained. Australian art is the hero of the design, whilst all furniture, fittings and finishes are selected to portray the qualities of Scandinavian design.

Some products represent Danish design icons, whilst others are from newer European designers who have captured the elegance and simplicity that exemplifies Danish design. The Ground floor representation areas feature lounge and dining spaces which open onto the outdoor terraces to the East and South, together with the poolside entertaining areas.

The private areas of the residence are inspired by Danish coziness, nature and the invigorating climate. However, here too, Australian art is featured and becomes an integral part of the colour scheme for each room.
