The new Østerbro School on Strandboulevarden comprises of eight buildings that previously housed, amongst others, the Danish Design School. The combination of very different types of buildings and green spaces across the site, paints a picture of a miniature Østerbro, giving the school a golden opportunity to become a “city within a city”.

The concept focuses on the creation of a challenging, stimulating physical environment - inside and outside. Local community interested parties are invited into the school; the school reaches out in the community, and provides offers to other institutions in the municipality.

The school prides itself on its strong health profile. There will be test centers for sport and fitness; a new sports hall is also to be constructed. Children will be educated on healthy eating, in conjunction with the school’s new production kitchen. The school will feature laborites for natural sciences, physics, biology and chemistry that are more advanced than that of other schools.

The architectural approach to the buildings and their interior is in keeping with the school's core values ​​, such that the physical environment helps to strengthen the school's social qualities around respect and equality, consistency and variation, and also perform as self-activating, secure and creative. The implementation takes place while several of the buildings are still in operation, posing certain challenges for the project.
