The Copenhagen Metro will be extended with a new city circle line called Cityringen, which will include 17 underground stations and stretches over 15.5 kilometers – scheduled for completion in 2019.
Opening in 2019, the new line will be constructed as an independent metro system with no track connection to the existing subway and, therefore, need an independent clearance and maintenance center. This CMC is located on a 10 hectare site at Vasbygade, which was previously used as a container terminal.
The center comprises a main building and several smaller building units, covering internal cleaning of trains, workshops, transformer substations and track areas, including test track, parking and turning trails and outdoor platforms. The main building of 4,500 m², over 3 levels, comprises reception, warehouse, changing facilities, offices, canteen, technical rooms, master control center and various support functions.
The facades are clad with a bronze-anodized aluminum expanded sheet metal, while the bay windows, with their light aluminum surrounds, stand-out and express their function.
Vasbygade/ Sydhavnen is an area under development and when the area is fully developed the new maintenance center will be situated in a very prominent and visible location.
