Matrikel1 is located on Højbro Plads no. 8-10, a central square in historic surroundings in the heart of Copenhagen. Matrikel1 is the Danish headquarters in the international co-working community ’Creators Community’ – and the place functions as an innovation hub and co-working space for creative entrepreneurs.

Refurbished with respect for the original architecture
Matrikel1 consists of two different buildings that have been merged into a single property and renovated with respect for the original architecture and the listed building in no. 10. The premises comprise of 3.600 m2 on four different floors – and now has a total of 230 office workplaces in inspiring and comfortable surroundings. The buildings have been designed with flexible and individual workspaces, meeting rooms, members lounge, a membership club, a bar and a café accessible to the public. On the 5th floor there is event space with room for 150 people.

Light, space and increased coherence
PLH Arkitekter has opened up the building by increasing the inflow of daylight with new skylights and room divisions in glass. More space has been created – and in general there is now a better utilization of building space – e.g. there has been opened up to the lower floor from parterre with a new connecting staircase. A special focus area has been to improve the coherence in between the two buildings, in order to make them appear as a single property with equal office and meeting facilities. Furthermore, the main foyer on the ground floor is now fully integrated into the connection between the two buildings, the premises appear coherent, and users no longer experience a quality difference in between the two buildings.

Inspiring and timeless surroundings with an urban edge
In the refurbishment and design of the property, the focus has been on creating timeless elegance, modern comfort and a homey atmosphere in a community where members thrive. The surroundings are inspiring, timeless and elegant but at the same time have an edge with colourful and modern elements that challenge the visitors and start their mind.
