DMJX is an institution of higher learning offering degree programs in journalism, communication, design and media production, and heavily focused on creativity and transparency. The intention of the building’s design is to offer a first-hand look at the inner workings of a creative environment in dialogue with its surroundings. We have worked with the concepts of openness and transparency by a creating an environment that is visible from the street, placing building details and materials that reflect solidity and flexibility on full display. Where possible, the building relies on column-bearing concrete construction which allows the option of reconfiguring interiors with little structural alteration to building modules, utility lines or facades.

To further underscore the dynamic nature of the school’s activities, the proposal integrates a projection of living images, such as slide shows, film clips and news reports against the glass facades of the entrance hall, giving the appearance of a live newsroom.

Building users and guests can take advantage of the school’s large roof terrace, where landscape element such as green climbers on the sloping façade, trees and planted beds offer a pleasant green courtyard atmosphere
