The Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR) has consolidated its activities in DR Byen, a multi-media centre, in Ørestad North. The 130,000 m² complex is comprised of 4 segments designed by 4 individual architects. It includes studio facilities, technical areas for TV and radio production, office areas and editing studios, a large range of shared facilities, public and semi-public areas, workshops etc. for 3,000 employees as well as a concert hall of international standard (1,800 seats).

The physical and technical framework in DR Byen is tailored to the multimedia productions of the future and supports the strategic goal of DR in order to promote the exchange of knowledge and cooperation across the organisation. From the outset of the project in 1999 PLH has been functioning as client advisor and space planning consultant to DR on the entire project. Our services include: strategic briefing, visioning sessions and policy work with the top management of DR, programming, management and coordination of user processes, space planning, interior programming, interior design and FF&E tendering.

The space planning and interior design concept for DR Byen is based on the Activity Based Workplace. The overall aim is to create a flexible environment which inspires creativity, collaboration and the exchange of knowledge across the organisation. This means better programs and more choice for users of the broadcast services provided by DR.
