Steen Enrico, senior partner at PLH Arkitekter, was one of the key speakers at this year’s “Innovationskongress 2019” hosted by ZIA German Property Federation in Berlin.

Thursday the 28th of November, senior partner, Steen Enrico, talked at this year’s ZIA Innovation Congress in Berlin. The focal point of the event involved how German companies can develop better working environments by including the triad of technology, innovation and human centred design.

Nordic Work Life is about collaboration and innovation

“Human centred Design: “Nordic Work Life is About Collaboration and Innovation”” – was the title of Steen’s presentation. Steen introduced how to design workplaces in order to support innovative processes. One of his key points were; that companies should create their innovation zones based on processes and procedures where creativity and innovation thrive. Steen recommended not just designing places that look innovative – but instead design areas and zones that support the users’ creative processes.

During Steen’s presentation, he showed what modern offices look like with areas to interact, collaborate, reflect and ‘no-tech’ zones – areas that can be used to e.g. meditation and recharging. Offices like these are important and necessary for the employees’ health in a world where everyone is online 24/7.

“To attract and retain the best employees, companies must create attractive and healthy working environments. But to attract the younger generation Y and Z, which will represent 75% of the workforce in 2025, the companies need to create areas with a large variety – a more free-flowing workplace,” tells Steen Enrico.

”New Work, New Rules, Old Office?”

Steen participated in a panel with Ralf Freter, a workplace consultant from Steelcase – the leading manufacturer of office furnitures. The topic of the panel discussion was “New Work, New Rules, Old Office?”. Steen and Ralf discussed that only 7% of the German office buildings are suitable to accommodate modern work methods. Steen presented how PLH Arkitekter designs buildings from the inside and out – focusing on the human centred design. He also explained how this approach can contribute to an improved development and transformation of German office buildings.

Martin Rodeck, Executive Managing Director at EDGE Technologies, participated as the moderator of the panel discussion.
