Big changes are coming to Lyngby Storcenter – starting next year, visitors and customers will be able to visit the iconic, century-old Illums Bolighus. PLH Arkitekter is behind the major conversion making the shopping center an attractive destination for furniture and design enthusiasts alike.

The location on the Lille Torv square is among the premises’ most central, inspiring us to focus on creating a natural coherence with the rest of the center. Thus, we help to create even more and better experiences for the visitors and customers while also giving Illums Bolighus one of its decidedly most impressive stores,” says Søren Mølbak, CEO and partner in PLH Arkitekter.

With 4,500 sqm of combined store and display area sprawling across three floors, the new Illums Bolighus will be Denmark's second largest – surpassed only by the store on Amagertorv in Copenhagen.

The conversion includes a new, more open facade for the shopping center, and a new escalator leading directly to the store from the basement parking deck. The Lyngby flagship store is scheduled to open in April 2023.

This is far from the first time that PLH Arkitekter breathes new life into a shopping center with updated surroundings and experiences. Copenhagen’s Amager Center officially re-opened its doors in 2020 after a major renovation. Here, PLH Arkitekter transformed the previously closed building into an open and modern center encompassing, among other things, a green courtyard, natural light, intimate, cozy areas for café life and local meeting places for the area's residents.
